Private Mean Hamster test application. Original commercial games and ROMs are supplied by the user. M.U.L.E.+ uses the MPE project artwork and game code; Loom uses the MIT MPE converter and SCUMM engine. Atari7800 core: ProSystem, GPLv2. Atari2600 core: MCUME VCS, GPLv2 or later; TIA sound: LGPL2.1. Atari5200 core: pinned MCUME/Atari800, GPLv2 or later; embedded Altirra replacement system ROM is freely redistributable under its retained permission notice. No original Atari BIOS is bundled. Doom engine: pinned RP2040 Doom, GPLv2 and retained upstream notices. Corresponding source accompanies this private build. Node and its dependencies: see Node-LICENSE.txt.
Gauntlet and Double Dragon arcade engines: retained MAME/ymfm BSD, Musashi MIT and chips zlib notices in the adjacent arcade license files. Their ROM-free corresponding source accompanies this build. Arcade ROMs, graphics and speech data are supplied by the user.

# Attribution and source boundaries

HamsterOS_A8 is private Mean Hamster Software development. New compact shell and
preview surface code are MHS contributions; no new blanket open-source license
is granted by creating this repository.

The font, desktop icons, pointer silhouette and window-control style are adapted from the
maintained `Mean-Hamster-Power-Engine/desktop/hamsteros` source. Builds retain its
NOTICE.md and exact source hashes in the build's `shared` folder and receipt.
The pointer's CGA provenance remains in the maintained hos_chrome.c; this project
does not build or modify the CGA edition.

Sliding Puzzle adapts Mean Hamster Software's original HamsterOS
`apps/puzzle.c` board rules, adjacent-tile moves, legal-move shuffle and solved
detection into a new 6502 APP. Its exact reference source and revision are
preserved in the build's `shared/puzzle-reference.c` snapshot and receipt.

The port-2 mouse helper adapts the maintained AGI-ANTIC/native Atari quadrature
decoder behavior. It uses physical port 2, matching the shared joystick-1/mouse-2 default.
No game data or game-specific runtime is copied.

The A8H1 browser uses the established A8PicoCart menu command protocol by
Robin Edwards (Electrotrains). Its RAM-request, cartridge activation and patched
ATR OS-copy sequences follow the upstream Atari Boot ROM. The low-RAM XEX loader
is written in 64tass syntax using the upstream length-prefixed paging protocol
and INITAD/RUNAD behavior, whose upstream implementation credits Jon Halliday
(FJC). Those source obligations must be resolved and included before distribution.
The shared A8 source is the protocol authority; its notice obligations remain.

PrismA8 and A8PicoCart remain shared components of Mean-Hamster-Power-Engine-A8.
Their original notices and component terms must accompany eventual distribution.
This shell's host preview surface does not constitute another PrismA8 renderer.
Toolchains, commercial inputs and hardware firmware snapshots stay out of Git.

IMAGE.LIB reuses the maintained C64 `hos_image.c`, `hos_picture.c` and pinned
HamNet image kernels. The separate image-codecs library remains in shared A8
source. Its build freezes those sources and HamNet LICENSE/ORIGIN notices, with
exact hashes in the image-library receipt. Keep that corresponding source and
its existing proprietary/third-party terms with any private release bundle.

# Reuse and notices

HamsterOS_C64 is a Mean Hamster Software project. Its portable document/history and desktop code adapt the behavior contracts audited in the PC and CGA editions; their x86/8086 kernels and executable formats are not copied into this runtime.

The mouse pointer is copied exactly from `HamsterOS_CGA/kernel/cga_kernel.S`, labels `pointer_arrow_mask` and `pointer_arrow_fill_mask`. The spelling service adapts the algorithms in `HamsterOS/apps/hamwrite.c` and retains the exact original dataset and notices under `assets/SYSTEM`.

File and application icons reuse the existing HamsterOS icon library; drive artwork reuses HamsterOS shell glyphs and the C64 GUI's SD/cartridge artwork. Source hashes and the palette conversion are recorded with the imported icon assets.

The target builds use the maintained Mean Hamster Power Engine source and its independent Prism+ renderer. Their applicable licenses and notices accompany the distribution; dictionary provenance and ESDB notices accompany `SPELL.DAT`. This project is free for download, is not sold, and is noncommercial. No commercial game content is part of this desktop package.

# HamNet image kernels

Mean Hamster Software's `HamNet/core/src/hamnet_image_decode.c` is pinned here
as `image_decode.reference.c`, SHA-256
`a96a51e23ef758518fa5209ba70ae74316acd08a0549815fab0f37c2ea0b8a63`.
The owner's requested C64 port reuses its baseline JPEG and DEFLATE kernels.
`python scripts/adapt-image-decoder.py` reproduces `src/hos_image_kernels.h`.
The C64 adapter quantizes directly to C64 colors, stores packed pixels, bounds
all storage and streams PNG output through a history ring and two scanlines.
The PC/CGA/HamNet source trees remain unchanged. The retained HamNet license
applies to these owner-provided sources.
