A8Pico MPE Power Engine for Atari XL/XE Has Arrived!
A8Pico MPE is here! It’s included in the updated Mean Hamster Power Engine for 8-Bits, bringing enhanced games, emulators and an optional HamsterOS desktop to Atari XL/XE.

Through Tritari on Atari XL/XE. Altirra capture.

Latest software preview of the Atari graphics and high-resolution text.
We renamed the application because we’ll be adding more supported cartridges to the MPE family. One free Windows application now covers A8PicoCart for Atari and TeensyROM+ and Kung Fu Flash 2 for C64.
MPE uses the processor inside the cartridge to help power the games and graphics, while your Atari provides the display, sound and controls.
There’s plenty to explore:
- King’s Quest I and II, plus Space Quest I and II, with PrismA8 graphics and high-resolution menus and dialog text.
- M.U.L.E.+, ready to install, with one to four players and saved games.
- Tritari, supporting compatible Atari 2600, 5200 and 7800 ROMs—including Asteroids for the 7800.
- CannonBall / OutRun, prepared from your original arcade ROM files.
- Loom EGA, available as an experimental conversion.
GameGearVM is also available, with hardware speed and sound still being improved. Console ROM compatibility varies.
Choose the optional HamsterOS desktop for mouse controls and a file manager, or launch compatible games without it. Download the application and select the A8PicoCart tab to get started.
