HamsterWeazle v1.0 Released
GreaseWeazle, now with a proper interface
HamsterWeazle is a Windows desktop app that puts a clean, modern GUI on top of the GreaseWeazle USB adapter — the hardware tool that reads and writes floppy disks at the raw magnetic flux level, supporting dozens of vintage computer formats.
On first launch HamsterWeazle automatically downloads and installs the GreaseWeazle host tools. It also offers to pull in HxCFloppyEmulator for browsing disk image contents. Everything stays up to date automatically — HamsterWeazle, the GreaseWeazle tools, and HxCFloppyEmulator all self-update.
What it does
- Read a physical floppy to an image file
- Write an image file to a blank floppy — format auto-detected from the file extension and size
- Erase disks
- Update device firmware and run a drive cleaner from the Tools tab
- Browse disk image contents with HxCFloppyEmulator integration
A Write Queue remembers every past job so you can repeat a write in one click. Every floppy you read lands in an Inbox folder automatically. The app restores its full session on relaunch — open tabs, queue, everything.
Themes
HamsterWeazle ships with two themes: a sharp dark theme and a faithful Amiga Workbench recreation. Switch between them in Settings.
Supported formats
Amiga, IBM PC (all densities from 160 KB to 2.88 MB), Apple II, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Commodore (1541/1571/1581), Mac, MSX, ZX Spectrum, Sega, Acorn, DEC, and many more — anything GreaseWeazle supports, HamsterWeazle can image.
Download
Grab HamsterWeazle.exe from the GitHub releases page. Requires Windows 10/11 x64 and a GreaseWeazle adapter. The .NET 10 Desktop Runtime is the only prerequisite if not already installed.
