King's Quest IV in testing

King's Quest IV is now in compatibility testing on AGI-64. Developed as both the final King's Quest built in AGI and Sierra's first SCI game, it is an important test of the interpreter's remaining edges.

Completing compatibility with its AGI edition should round out the remaining features needed by the AGI interpreter for the Commodore 64.

Testing games to the finish

We have been hard at work playtesting games and making sure they can be won from start to finish. King's Quest I and Space Quest I are both nearly 100% complete.

2 MiB Magic Desk testing

We have also tested the 2 MiB Magic Desk 16K cartridge format with larger games such as King's Quest IV, and the results have been good. Its bank configuration makes it slightly slower than a 1 MiB EasyFlash cartridge, but it currently appears to be the most accessible format for games that need the additional space.

A 2 MiB Magic Desk cartridge image can be run from a TeensyROM cartridge. Thanks to Travis from Sensorium for the heads-up!

The compiler tool takes shape

Work-in-progress Sierra Game Compiler interface recognizing an AGI game and preparing an EasyFlash CRT build
A first look at the Sierra Game Compiler while development is still in progress.

The work-in-progress compiler scans a game's AGI data, recognizes known editions, reports compatibility, and prepares an EasyFlash-compatible CRT for the C64.
